Sue Schaar, Ed.D.

Sue Schaar realized in her first year of teaching that gifted children were not getting what they needed and has made it her lifelong passion to serve and advocate for them. She earned her doctorate in Education of the Gifted from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1992. In addition to teaching in self-contained and pullout gifted programs at elementary levels, she has been a district director for gifted programming in California and, most recently, in the Madison Metropolitan School District, from where she retired in Spring, 2014. Dr. Schaar is a Professor Emerita from California State University where she taught numerous educational foundations and graduate education and psychology courses. She consulted widely in the Los Angeles area regarding gifted issues, with a focus on differentiation, social-emotional concerns of gifted individuals and parent education.  She is a WATG Board member and a founding member of the non-profit, Entelechia, an organization in the Madison metro area whose goal is to support and connect gifted youth and parents of gifted youth.
