2A: Sparking Innovation: Creativity and Code

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Who is successful and why? According to MacArthur Genius Grant winner Angela Lee Duckworth, the key is grit and as educators, we need to be gritty about getting our kids grittier.
How can we create opportunities within the often-restrictive parameters of the current education system for fostering grit? The answer is coding.

Attend this session and learn how to implement coding within the classroom and beyond to spark creativity, empower motivation, and simultaneously address the Common Core State Standards, all with free, easily accessible technologies. Come with curiosity and leave with tools for implementing coding.

Participants are encouraged to bring an internet connectable device. This session is designed for elementary and middle school teachers with no prior coding knowledge and experience.

Outcomes

  • Learn the basics of computer programming so that they are able to implement coding lessons in their classrooms.

  • Use digital media and environments to support individual learning.

  • Plan and manage the art of blending human ideas and digital tools to increase problem solving power.

  • Spark students to demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes.
